Question

I have a question about filing taxes on disability income — When do I need to claim disability on taxes?

Answer

When you claim disability on taxes, the rules for filing taxes on disability for both short-term and long-term disability payments are the same. Include these benefits in your gross income if you or your employer paid the coverage premiums on a pre-tax basis. If the premiums were paid on a post-tax basis, exclude the payments from your income.
