Why you received IRS Letter 1025A

  1. You filed a tax return that the IRS selected for audit.
  2. You disagreed with the auditor’s decision, but you paid the tax, penalties and interest.
  3. You filed a claim for refund.
  4. The request for a refund was denied.
  5. You appealed the denial.
  6. The IRS sent Letter 1025A to inform you that additional information is needed before the case can be forwarded to Appeals.

Notice deadline: Varies

If you miss this deadline: The IRS will process the proposed changes to your tax return and send you a notice of deficiency which will give you 90 days to petition the U.S. Tax Court.
