Why you received IRS Letter 2840C

  1. You filed a tax return.
  2. You have a balance due and you are unable to pay the balance due in full.
  3. Although the taxes have not been formally assessed, you requested a payment plan (installment agreement).
  4. The IRS sent Letter 2840C to notify you that an installment agreement has been set up, and show you the payment amount, due date, and payment address. This notice also includes instructions on how to make out your checks to ensure proper credit.
