Why you received IRS Letter 3284

  1. You filed a tax return with a filing status of married filing jointly.
  2. The IRS attempted to collect taxes due on that return from your spouse or former spouse.
  3. The IRS sent Letter 3284 to notify you that your spouse or former spouse requested innocent spouse relief. If full relief is granted, you will be solely responsible for the unpaid balance. This notice also informs you of your right to participate in the proceedings.
