Why you received IRS Notice CP12
- You filed a tax return with the IRS.
- When processing your return, the IRS discovered a miscalculation.
- The IRS corrected the error and made an adjustment to your return.
- CP12 was sent to notify you that the adjustment resulted in a refund or a different refund amount. The IRS will issue the refund in four to six weeks.
Notice deadline: 60 days
If you miss the deadline: If you do not dispute the changes on a CP12 within 60 days, the IRS will not reverse the adjustment without substantiation and you will lose your right to appeal the IRS decision.
