The IRS sends CP503 to remind you that an unpaid balance remains on your individual income tax return for the year indicated. The IRS is requiring payment.

Why you received IRS Notice CP503

  1. You did not pay the balance due on a tax return by the due date.
  2. The IRS sent notices about unpaid taxes you owe, but the IRS never received a response.

Notice deadline: 10 days

If you miss the deadline: Additional penalties and interest will accrue. The IRS may file a Notice of Federal Tax Lien against you. A tax lien can damage your credit or make it difficult for you to get credit.
