IRS Notice CP515 – You Didn’t File a Form 1040 Tax Return

1 min read

1 min read

The IRS sends CP515 as a reminder that a tax return has not been received for the year shown on the notice.

Type of notice: Late return

Likely next step: Address unfiled tax returns

Also see: IRS penalties, IRS bill for unpaid taxes

Why you received IRS Notice CP515

  1. The IRS did not receive a tax return from you by the due date.
  2. The IRS thinks that you are required to file a tax return for the tax year shown on the notice.
  3. You may have received a previous request for a tax return (IRS Notice CP59) and the IRS did not receive a response.

Notice deadline: Not specified

If you miss the deadline: The IRS may figure your tax for you. Penalty and interest charges may continue to accrue. If you are owed a refund for the current tax year, or any prior year, it may be delayed because of your unfiled return.
