If you’re an individual taxpayer, the IRS can tell you:
- Your payoff amount, updated for the current calendar day
- The balance for each tax year for which you owe
- Up to 18 months of your payment history
- Key information from your current tax year return as originally filed.
More from H&R Block
If you need to know the total balance that you owe to the IRS, you can use the IRS View Your Account Information tool on the IRS website. It will show the balance you owe by tax year and will show any payments you have made. If you want to pay your balance due in full, the tool also shows your payoff balance with penalties and interest calculated for the current calendar day.
The tool will also provide a link to make a payment from your checking account or by credit card. If you need other payment options, click the Pay tab at the top of the irs.gov homepage.
