IRS Error (Penalty Abatement)
An IRS error can be any error made by the IRS in computing or assessing tax, crediting accounts, etc.

You may be able to request penalty abatement due to IRS error if:
- The IRS made a mistake in calculating or charging you tax.
- The IRS made an error in crediting a payment to your account.
- You can show that you complied with tax law, but the IRS didn’t recognize that fact.
You would need to write to the IRS to request penalty abatement based on IRS error and include proof of the error.
