H&R Block to Showcase Black Small Businesses During Black History Month

February 02, 2022 : H&R Block

At H&R Block, we are committed to generating opportunities to help Black business owners thrive. In fact, we are working to support 500,000 small business owners, ensuring at least 15% are people of color. We are continuing this work during Black History Month, as we showcase Black businesses every week throughout the month of February at our corporate office in Kansas City.

“Black History Month is an important time to reflect on the history and triumphs of Black individuals throughout history, and to celebrate their impact on our communities,” said LeAna Flores, H&R Block’s Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging. “Black-owned businesses contribute so much to the vibrancy of communities all across the country, and we want to spotlight a few right here in our hometown of Kansas City.”

Each week, Kansas City Black businesses will participate in a showcase at the company’s corporate office. Block associates will be able to shop at and support the businesses that will be featured in the company lobby, as well enjoy food from Black-owned restaurant at the company’s cafeteria, The Chopping Block.

In 2021, the company developed a pilot program with the Urban League of Greater Kansas City to improve financial management and confidence among Black small businesses. In this program, Block Advisors small business certified tax pros provided personalized coaching and services designed to improve financial management, tax compliance, bookkeeping and payroll.
