H&R Block Tax Pro Spotlight: Ruthie James Loves Getting Her Clients Their Fair Share

April 01, 2022 : H&R Block

Ruthie James has been working for H&R Block in Milpitas, California, for 42 years. What started as providing for her small children, has turned into a lifelong journey of care for others.

“I treat my clients how I want to be treated, and that’s with care, concern, and respect,” James said.

Although Ruthie meets many new taxpayers through referrals from loyal clients and reviews, she has lifetime clients as well, including one that has been coming to her for her entire 42-year career at Block. Even though he moved away, he still sets a date every year to come in to see her.

“I’d like to think of myself as a person of integrity,” James said. “My clients know I’m here to make sure they get their fair share.”

She is now on her third generation of some families and she’s been working with some clients since the beginning of her career. James’ specialty remains in building client relationships, but she’s filled with great tax tips to help every client.

Her biggest tax tip of the year is: “I always encourage my clients to take steps to reduce their tax liability – like invest as much as possible in their 401(k) and tithe to their church..”

“My obsessive enthusiasm for complex taxes means it’s more than a season for me. It’s a commitment. From learning, planning, and being at the top of my game in tax – to forging relationships with my clients that go beyond the return, I’m ready to help you meet your goals. I love my job. And I love making your tax life better.”
