Can I E-File Again If My E-File Return Is Rejected by the IRS?

If you’re filing taxes with an H&R Block Online product and your e-file return is rejected by the IRS, we can help. There are many reasons a return might be rejected. For example, your name or date of birth might not match IRS records, or there might be a typo somewhere in your return.

However, just because your e-file return is rejected by the IRS doesn’t necessarily mean you have to resort to mailing a paper return. Depending on your specific situation, you might be able to e-file again.

First, try to correct any errors:

  1. While you’re logged into your MyBlock account, choose Fix Errors.
  2. On the page where the error has occurred, correct the error and click Next.
  3. Repeat as many times as needed until all errors are fixed.

If you’re still unable to e-file, you might need to file a paper extension form. Having to mail your return doesn’t necessarily mean it’s incorrect. Occasionally, e-file returns are rejected by the IRS, especially if the returns are particularly complex.
